What does it mean by The Age of Exploration?
The Age of Exploration, also known as The Age of Discovery, indicates the period of time in which people started to discover new continents in the world including Americas, and established new paths to Africa and Asia to shorten the length of time traveled. This trend of discovery, or exploration, flourished during late 15th to early 17th century. These fascinating trips to new paths of sea, however, was very dangerous and very uncertain in every ways.
Then why did so many people risked their lives into these uncertain explorations? Well, because out of many uncertain future of this dangerous trip, one thing was as certain and clear as a crystal, REPUTATION ALONG WITH TREMENDOUS WEALTH!
However, it took A LOT of money to even start the journey; even the richest person in a country couldn’t dare to start a new trip with a new ship with new workers with new captain because it was so expensive! So here’s how people started new trips; one rich guy propose that he is to build this ship for the grand trip to Americas. A surge of people go to that rich guy, and invest their money, small or large. With the money gathered from hundreds of people, the rich guy can now afford to start a new tirp with a new ship with new workers with new captain and even new sailing equipments. When the ship returns with great honor, all the people who invested get the proportion of their wealth. If the ship fails, which was what happened to most of the ships at that time, then it was over.
